Throughout their 53 years of existence, Dr Martens have been the footwear of choice for a range of people, from punks to pop stars – while music movements and fashions have come and gone, DMs always seem to have bounced back (perhaps it’s their ‘bouncy soles’).
Originally worn by working men such as factory workers and postmen, Dr Martens first became fashionable in the late 60s when worn by The Who’s guitarist, Pete Townshend. Throughout the 70s and 80s the boot became popular with almost all social groups, including punks, mods, skinheads and glam rockers, emphasising their diversity in fashion. During the 90s Blur frontman Damon Albarn was frequently seen sporting the boot, increasing their popularity more.
And now, Dr Martens are worn by many A-listers, from Kristen Stewart to Miley Cyrus. Maybe that’s just why the Boots have made a huge come back in recent years – in 2012 ASOS saw sales of DMs soar by 230%.
There’s no doubt that the boot will continue to bounce back for many years, making them a great investment that can be worn time and time again – and you don’t even have to worry about wear and tear as boots like these often look better with age!
Grab yourself a pair on the Dr Marten website or in high street stores including Urban Outfitters, Schuh and Office.
